2008 South-South Partnership Youth Forum opens in Achimota, Ghana

11 August 2008

The South-South Partnership is a co-operation between Girl Guides from Ghana, Togo, Benin and Nigeria. It provides an opportunity for girl guides from different backgrounds to exchange ideas and culture and also work towards solving problems affecting them.

This year the girls are camping in Ghana, at the Guides Training Centre, Achimota from Sunday 3rd August to Saturday 10th August on the theme

“Today’s girl, Tomorrow’s woman”.

At the opening ceremony held at the Joyce- Dorothy Memorial Hall on Monday the Guest Speaker, Mrs. Lucy Kwapong encouraged the participants to focus on their education and aim for even beyond the sky. She also urged the girls to believe in their abilities and engage in the sciences and mathematics which are mostly male dominated.

Also in attendance were the President of the Ghana Girl Guides Association Princess Eva Monica Boateng, the immediate past Chief-Commissioner of the association (GGGA) Mrs. Rose Mortagbe who was the chairperson for the occasion, Miss Perpetua Osei-Bonsu, the Solicitor of the Association and representatives of the Scout Association in Ghana.

The participants did not allow the language barrier to deter them as they freely expressed themselves in either French or English. With the help of an able interpreter, Rama, a young leader from Benin, everything went on smoothly.

By the end of the ceremony, one could confidently conclude by the enthusiasm exhibited by the girls had gained so much knowledge and had also to be well informed to take up the mantle of becoming

“the unique woman of the future”

Tons of thanks to all the distinguished personalities who graciously took time off their busy schedules to impart us with so much information .
